RIDHOR
Krakenâs arena was an aquatic colosseum in a similar state as the one in the Mortal Realm. Parts of the circular structure had fallen, piles of bricks, coral, and other building materials lay surrounded the arena, but the centre was completely cleared out with an even ground.
A large throne was set in the wall.
Kraken sat there, a massive and intimidating form. He was larger than any ocean creature in any realm, and at least twice as daunting. He towered over the arena, making the impressive place stolen from an ancient moment in time look small in comparison. His yellow eyes flicked over the scene, measuring them up.
Ridhor knew Kraken didnât believe he could best his warrior of choice. Berserkers had once been indestructible champions. Their presence on the battlefield gave birth to a crippling fear in the hearts of their opponents. Now they were relics. Extinct. A memory that barely ever came to the surface.
They failed to protect their kind, and their failure allowed the Great War to tear apart their realms.
âYouâre not like the others, old friend. Weâre not like the others. That is not a weakness.â His beast, no longer caged, felt more a part of him. He stretched through the space inside himself, filling all the empty spaces he carried with him over the years. âWe will tear through whoever dares challenge us to get back to our mate. Our child.â
Our mate.
Our child.
His heart lurched in his chest, the thought of being apart from Melas and Zura hitting him square in the chest.
âAye.â They had a purpose now, a common goal that could put all the pieces of him back together. The constant threat of his beast was gone. If he had Melas and Zura at his side, he would have marvelled in the relief that brought him.
A clicking noise came from Kraken, rippling through the water.
The rest of Ridhorâs party sat at his side where he could keep an eye on them as Ridhor swam to the centre and waited.
The fin Alette gave him to swim to The Depths would not be ideal in a fight. Not that it mattered. If this was the only way they would find Thirielâs hideout, nothing would stop him. Not even a giant fishtail where his legs should be.
âWe are not limited by our weapons or our legs,â his beast told him. âThink of your fin as picking up an axe or a knife. It can be an asset and a weapon.â
A conch shell sounded, and a being swam out from the opposite end of the arena.
An Adaro.
The muscular being swam into the arena with a harpoon in each hand. His shark tail fin sprouted from his hips, longer than Ridhorâs. A weapon belt hung low on his hips, a deeper tone than the turquoise of his skin. His shoulders were muscular. Where Ridhor was broad and thick, the Adaro was tight muscles meant for speed behind his strength. His hands had sharp and long talons on his fingers, adding another eight weapons to the array he already had on his person.
